Halftone textures are fantastic resources for creating retro print effects by simply overlaying the dot patterns over your solid colour artwork. I shared a pack of distressed halftone patterns last year, which featured a range of uniform halftone screens of various densities. This time, I’ve created a new series of vector textures with gradual changes in dot size, which help add subtle tones to your designs.
This week Access All Areas members are being given a brand new resource from Simon Birky Hartmann’s The Shop. This Ultimate Brown Texture Pack is the first of three volumes that will be donated to members over the upcoming months. Each pack contains 15 super high resolution texture files of brown paper bags with varying degrees of grain, creases and folds to give your designs a craft inspired vibe. At 5,090×7,000 pixels @ 600 dpi these professional quality textures have a high enough resolution for the largest of print designs.
Grungy textures are versatile resources that can be used as backgrounds and overlays in your designs to add dirty distressed effects. Broken photocopiers produce some of the best textures around, combining black and white tones with heavy grain which is perfect for retrofying your designs with aged looks. I’ll let you in on a little secret, these textures were actually created by abusing my scanner, but they contain all the characteristics of photocopy toner malfunctions.
Daniel Schwarz from Airwalk Design has kindly donated a brand new resource for Access All Areas members to download. This texture pack, named Lucifer’s Cage, contains 10 grungy backgrounds for your designs, each with a vibrant red and blue duotone colour scheme. Retain these blazing colours and use them as backgrounds to create demonic designs, or desaturate and apply them as overlays to add grungy effects to your artwork.
I recently inherited a box of my Grandfather’s old possessions, which alongside his WW2 service books and a Great War Memorial Plaque for my great-great-uncle, also contains a number of postcards dated from the mid-1930s. As well as being treasured heirlooms, the aged paper textures of these postcards also make fantastic design resources! Download this pack of 24 free postcard textures to create authentic vintage effects for your artwork.
A couple of months ago I shared some rusty metal logo mockups which allowed you to place your logo designs onto distressed textures to create simulations of your artwork being painted onto real surfaces. I’ve been hunting for more cool textures to create another set of free resources, so today’s giveaway is a collection of 5 weathered wood logo mockups. Use them to realistically apply your logo onto an old, aged wooden background. They’re the perfect setting for outdoors or rustic themed designs.
