I’ve been secretly working behind the scenes on a redesign of Spoon Graphics since June, but after 4 months of hard work and a little help from a friend I’m proud to introduce my website’s new look. Previous redesigns and refreshes have been quite conservative evolutions, but I think this new design takes a leap forward into modern web design while retaining the original character of the Spoon Graphics brand from 2007. Let me take you for a little tour and show you what’s new!
I almost forgot all about my annual tradition to write a birthday/anniversary post every April when my little blog gets another year older. 2015 marks 8 years of Spoon Graphics, so let’s take a look at how things have changed over the past 12 months. Last year I talked about the tweaks I’d made to my site to survive the apocalypse. I’m happy to report that those changes have made great improvements to my site’s growth, and things seem to be looking good for the future.
If you’re craving for some tasty new fonts, The Hungry Jpeg has served up a feast with their 40 fonts super bundle. This massive collection contains loads of high quality premium fonts from some of the best designers and illustrators in the world. There’s a nice mix of styles too, from elegant brush scripts to sturdy slab serifs, and many of them even come with additional items such as illustrated ornament packs. You can get them all for just $29, but this offer is only available for 14 days.
Happy Birthday everyone! April marks that time of year when I celebrate another year of running this blog and take a look back at what has changed over time. Seven years have now ticked by since I started this site in April of 2007. I was a little worried after writing up last year’s 6 year anniversary post because soon after Google Reader was due to be retired, which was the tool 75% of my readers used to browse my content. Thankfully I survived the apocalypse and my blog is doing better than ever! Let’s take a look behind the scenes and see what’s new this year.
Back in 2008 I had been playing around with my little Blog.SpoonGraphics site for about a year and I was starting to see some nice traffic growth. I then discovered Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee) and absorbed all his advice on how to “crush it” in order to make a living doing what you love. I put his tips into practice and 5 years of hard work later and I’m now running this site as my full time job. The man himself then contacted me out of the blue just a couple of weeks ago to offer a free copy of his new book Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook for review. How could I resist?
I regularly post links to interesting design tutorials and articles over on my Twitter and Facebook accounts, but in case you missed them here’s a roundup of my top pickings from my recent browsing of the web. This month we have some great content from Tutorialzine, Psdtuts+, Veerle’s Blog, Ben Brush Design and Vectortuts+.
