I have a new collection of free design resources to share with you this week, and these are MAGIC… Well not really, but kind of! If you’re an Adobe Illustrator fan I’m sure you love creating vector art. It can be scaled to any size and it’s easy to change the fill colour, unlike raster images. Unfortunately when it comes to textures, thousands of tiny vector paths and points can soon bog down your system, but what if there was a magical CPU friendly raster texture that was just as versatile as your favourite vector graphics? Introducing my free magic bitmap textures for Adobe Illustrator.
My free pack of magic bitmap textures contains 30 grainy texture graphics from sparse speckles to heavy grunge. They’re all edgeless, so they blend nicely into your artwork without any hard lines. What makes these bitmap textures truly magical is their colour changing ability in Adobe Illustrator. Drag or place a texture into your document, then apply a different colour fill to see the texture change colour just like a vector graphic. Dimensions of around 2500-3000px in size still makes them usable in your large format designs, but they’re much less prone to bogging down your computer as a detailed vector texture often does. Use these magic bitmap textures as backgrounds, or to easily distress your artwork. Add them to Opacity Masks, trim them to size with Clipping Masks, build up multiple layers of texturing, or experiment with different blending modes.
