Torn Paper Effect Photoshop Tutorial

In today’s Photoshop tutorial I’m going to show you how to create a series of surreal ripped paper collaging effects that give the appearance of an image being ripped away to reveal a different image underneath. We’ll use a variety of fundamental tools and techniques, such as layer masks and adjustment layers, which makes this tutorial perfect for Photoshop beginners.

  1. Thank you, Chris!
“Prehistoric tools like scissors and glue.” LOL
After spending the past 15 years learning Photoshop, about a year ago, I got back in to painting and mixed media IRL. I just wanted to experiment and tried new things. It is so exhausting! LOL I have piles of paints and mediums of all kinds, paper/substrates, adhesives, and so much more! One is only limited by their imagination – and their pocketbooks!
Oh, and if I had a nickel for every time I tried to ‘delete’ a mistake, I’d be rich!
I attribute my PS education to you and a few others.
    Thank you, again, so much!
    Su

    • That’s great to hear Su, I bet it’s really satisfying creating art the ‘old fashioned’ way. I rely too much on Edit > Undo so I get too frustrated when I try to draw or paint anything ‘in real life’!
